A WAKA ODYSSEY - Fun in the city!

Today Team Kahu had the most amazing opportunity to actually board the Waka Hourua that have come to Wellington as part of the SchoolsFest program.

Not only did we learn about navigation by stars, birds and wind from the crew of the waka but we also were able to put up the sails, see the crew's sleeping quarters and have a go at steering!

In addition to this we spent some time in Te Papa's learning lab creating our own Waka using the computer assisted drawing package 'Tinkercad'.  The link to this can be found on our Google Classroom pages if your child wishes to explore this further.

A great day was had by all and we would like to thank our parent helpers:
Dechen
Rob
Manawa
Belinda
Pete
Barbara
Hayley
Shontelle

for joining in the fun and making such a great day possible!

Elodie, Rory & Jasmine were interviewed by UNESCO New Zealand, who are one of the major sponsors of the event...
