Term 3 Week 8

Phew! What a HUGE couple of weeks thats just been! We have all been flat out rehearsing our moves and lines for the upcoming production in week 9. Although this has taken a lot of time to prepare for, we have still managed to squeeze in a bunch of other things.

Debating

All three classes hosted their debates over the past week. Every student has been involved in the process either as a opening speaker, topic presenter, rebuttal speaker or closing speaker. All the students worked incredibly hard preparing for their debate and delivered strong arguments.

After much deliberating, finalists from every class have been chosen to compete in our debating final on the last day of term 3. Congratulations to the following students:

These students are currently preparing for their final debates where they will be competing against each other to find the winner of our Year 7/8 Speech Cup winner.

KidsCan Food drive

A couple of Fridays ago our Charity Ambassadors got the rest of the school into action to collect food for needy families in the Hutt Valley. They were truly overwhelmed with the response! All of this plus more is on its way to Pomare School. Good on all of you!!

Tournament of Minds

Last weekend was crunch time for our Tournament of Minds team. On Saturday 6th they headed to Hutt Intermediate to compete against schools from all over the lower North Island. They chose the 'Applied Technology' challenge where they had to deliver a 10 minute presentation on a new 'wearable gadget' that they had invented. Along with this presentation they also had to compete in an spontaneous challenge which involved them solving a tricky problem with only 3 minutes to prepare.

At prize giving at the end of the day they received 'Honours' for their spontaneous challenge which is a great achievement. Congratulations to everyone involved.

Artsplash and Dancesplash

It was an very busy week for everyone involved in the Artsplash events last week. While the students from year 3-6 performed in a multi-school choir at the Michael Fowler Centre, some of our Year 7 and 8 students entertained the crowds in their outstanding wearable art costumes that they created last year. They looked spectacular on the big stage, well done everyone!

The final night of Artsplash week saw our Kapa Haka/Dance group preform on the same stage for Dancesplash. These groups have been rehearsing since the beginning of the term in preparation. It was a sensational performance - a real crowd pleaser. Congratulations to everyone involved on making tour school community so proud of you. A special thanks to Mr Chadwick and Mrs Hooke for bringing the two acts together. The movie below speaks for itself!

ASB Girls Football Tournament

Last Friday Muritai School entered 6 teams years 3-8 to play ‘girl’s only’ futsal (indoor football/soccer) at the ASB centre in Kilbirnie. Last week was New Zealand women's football week so we celebrated that as well. Each school was given a Football Fern (New Zealand’s womens team)  representative and we had to make up a banner supporting that football fern. We also made up a chant. Our Football Fern was Abby Erceg. We were also lucky to have a few under 20’s Football Ferns come and join in our games. All our teams did really well and we had a really fun and fantastic day.

Making our vote count!

Just a week out from the General Election, we had our own opportunity to cast our vote on who we thought should represent us in parliament. We all got two votes, a party vote and an candidate vote for Hutt South. We will be collating our votes tomorrow... I wonder if they will be the same results as this Saturday?
